For children that love to paint, it is fun to use different mediums to get the paint onto the paper. Cotton balls are soft and round, and therefore the children can explore different patterns and shapes with the paint. One friend always incorporated the cotton balls into her paintings and they ended up being beautiful and unique.
This activity enhances children’s creative abilities, their fine motor skills and strengthens their hand/finger grip that they will use to learn to write. But mostly it’s just fun.
I let my friends explore the cotton balls before the painting starts. It is a sensory experience, and it will give them an opportunity to explore the cotton balls before the paint gets on them. BUT just so you know, it does not stop some children from touching them when they are covered in paint. Keep wipes close!
