How to dye pasta

I have a few activities I want to try out, involving pasta. I therefore thought it would be fun to dye it rainbow colours. I’ve never dyed pasta before and it’s fun and makes the activities more exciting and vibrant.

You can dye all sizes and shapes of pasta but I chose Penne because that was the shape I had in mind for my activities.

How to dye pasta

Ingredients

  • • 2 cups pasta (any will do)
  • • 1 tbsp hand sanitizer
  • • ½ tsp food colouring
  • • 1 sip lock plastic bag
  • • Trays and a baking sheet
  • (This makes for one colour!)

Instructions

1

Put all the ingredients into the sip lock bag, make the bag airtight and close tightly. Shake the bag until the colour is mixed in with the pasta. But don’t shake to vigorously as the pasta can pierce a hole in the bag (if this happens you can use rubber gloves, disposable gloves or a kitchen towel to hold the bag).

2

If you want more than one colour you repeat this process for the other colours.

3

I left the bags for a 2 hours (I was speaking to my sister) and I turned them over a few times. I then emptied the bags on to trays covered with a baking sheet. I then let the pasta dry overnight.

Notes

The colour will look very dark before it dries.

Here is my first attempt at making slime!
