When I made these Christmas ornaments for the first time I was in Denmark. I forgot my measuring cups at me, and therefore I used just a normal teacup. I thought I had got all the quantities wrong, as the dough was very runny! I threw the whole thing in the bin, complaining to my sister about the measuring cups only to read the recipe again and therefore I realising that I had simply not cooked the dough in a pan on the stove. Dooh!
The clay is silky and soft, and very nice to handle. I think I will make this for my friends in the future as an alternative to play dough.
1. Mix the corn flour, the baking soda and the warm water in a saucepan. Stir together until it is alldissolved. 2. Put the saucepan onto medium heat and stir constantly, until the mixture starts coming together. It does resemble play dough. 3. Move the dough to a clean surface and wait until it cools down. Then kneed until soft using extra corn four if needed. 4. Roll out the dough evenly, and use lace or stamps to make patterns in the dough. 5. Cut out your ornaments with the cookie cutters and then cut a hole for hanging. I used a straw. Then pick up gently and lay on the baking tray that has been lined with baking paper. 6. I baked half of mine in the oven for half an hour at 75C. But they all cracked! The other half I left to air dry for 24 hours and I turned them half way through. They turned out perfect. I think I will do that in the future. 7. Tie a ribbon through the hole and hang on your Christmas three The dough seems very small after you have cooked it! But I made 16 ornaments from it!
